saltwater pontooning + dinner at squid lips

My family took a day trip to Sebastian to take the pontoon out for a couple of hours. We’re accustomed to lake-riding but this is the first time we’ve taken the boat on saltwater. We entered Indian River Lagoon by the boat landing in Sebastian Inlet State Park. In the first ten minutes of being on the water we saw three dolphins, and then three more later on. I had never seen manatee zone signs before today!

Afterwards, we ate at a restaurant called Squid Lips. They actually have a location on the water a short boat drive from where we were on the lagoon, but we went to the one in Melbourne.

They have an extensive menu with seafood (of course), classic main courses (burgers and chicken tenders), and unique appetizers. We tried the coconut onion chips which are onions sliced in squares, deep fried, and covered in coconut (think: twist on onion rings). They are so delicious!!!!

I ordered the Lobster-N-Crab Cake Sandwich which is served on a bun with tomato, onion, and lettuce; and got fries on the side. These are probably the best fries I’ve ever had. They’re a classically shaped fry but the seasoning and crunchiness makes them perfect in my opinion. I also got the Drunken Sweet Potato which is unlike anything I’ve ever had. It’s topped with brown sugar, rum, and spices.

This was a fun day trip with the perfect blend of fresh air, sunlight, good food, and family time.
